In-demand smartphone maker HTC, known for its sleek handset designs and embrace of Google’s Android operating system, had plans to debut three handset models at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. However, that plan was blown when photos of all three phones and specs of two of the phones were posted on the Android forum Android.MoDaCo. Details of the handsets Desire (formerly known as the Bravo), Legend and Touch HD Mini leaked Feb. 15, with official release photos of the handsets posted online. Details of the Touch HD Mini were not leaked. According to the leaked details, the Desire will boast a 3.7-inch touch-sensitive AMOLED screen, an optical navigation stick, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU from Qualcomm and HTC’s Sense user interface. Also expected to be included is FM radio, Android Version 2.1 (aka Éclair), a GPS with internal antenna and four sensors (proximity, ambient light, G-sensor and digital compass), as well as Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity with FTP/OOP for file transfers and PBAP for phonebook access from a car kit. Rounding out the package is a 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus and a flashlight. HTC was able to issue some news on its own Feb. 15, announcing plans to deliver a portfolio of Microsoft Windows Phone 7 Series phones to market later this year. The company said the phones will support Xbox Live games and Microsoft’s Zune music and video service, a capability highlighted by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at the company’s official software unveiling at MWC Feb. 15. During the event, Ballmer and Vice President of Windows Phones Joe Belfiore put a strong emphasis on the personal and unique experience the software will bring to each individual user. Peter Chou, CEO of HTC, called Windows Phone 7 Series a “significant milestone” for Microsoft, the industry and ultimately people looking to do more on their phones. “HTC is working closely with Microsoft to bring the unique HTC experience that customers love,” he said. “Microsoft has clearly listened to feedback from people and brought a new, fresh approach to the smartphone experience that is beautiful, powerful and compelling.

Htc Artemis P3300 comes with a 2 megapixel built-in camera. It does not have a macro mode like the JAMin or a flash like the K-JAM, but it works. The new camera interface is full of cryptic icons, but you should recognize most of them from using other cameras. If you don’t need UMTS/HSDPA and want to stop carrying a separate bluetooth GPS receiver, the P3300 could be your ticket to ride. Pocket-lint reviews the HTC-P3300 and writes, “The GPS function is the main selling point here and the TomTom software works a treat either in the car or on foot. In use and although the P3300 lacks the keyboard the unit performs well. The inclusion of Wi-Fi and and the GPS are a great addition and it’s surprising that both are present as the device is rather slim. What really makes the HTC P3300 a very attractive pocket pc it’s the design. The device measures 62,5mm (L) X 111mm (H) X 12,5mm (P) and weights only 124g. You can easily hold the device on one hand and with the presence of the jog wheel and trackball (HTC RollR) on the middle you can use it only with on hand. The trackball can be used for scrolling through the menus or to move the cursor on the screen and make selections as you do with a laptop trackball. On the left and right side of the wheel you can find the ‘make call / answer’ and ‘end call’ buttons as well as the dedicated windows mobile 5.0 keys. The power and dedicated camera button is located on the right side together with the stylus holder while the volume control slider, dedicated voice control key and soft reset button is located on the left side. On the back of the device you can find the 2.0-mega pixels camera, the self-portrait mirror and a socket for an external GPS Antenna. At the bottom there is the microphone jack and the USB connector. On the top of the HTC P3300 resides the external speaker. The microSD expansion slot is located beneath the battery. The display is a QVGA, 2.8” size with 65K colours and the standard 320 x 240 pixels resolution. The quality and brightness of the display is good and can be viewed very nice from different angles and under different conditions (dark-light). performance of the HTC P3300 is something that was discussed even before its release. The presence of the TI OMAP processor at 200 MHZ was one of the disappointing factors for this device with the plethora of connectivity features. Before HTC P3300 was even launched some suggested that the processor will be slow to satisfy the performance requirements of the average pocket pc user. This was said because the same TI OMAP processor was available on the QTEK 9100 and S200 and the performance was not so good.

HTC Touch is unlike any other smart phone the company has produced in a number of ways. Obviously, the TouchFlo interface is the biggest story, but the Touch also is the smallest touch screen smart phone that we’ve seen in recent memory. The handset measures a petite 3.9 inches long by 2.8 inches wide by 0.5 inch tall and weighs just 3.98 ounces, fitting nicely in the palm of your hand and easily slipping into a bag or pants pocket. Compare that to the bulky (4 inches by 2.3 inches by 0.8 inch; 5.6 ounces) or (4.4 inches by 2.2 inches by 0.8 inch; 6.2 ounces). In addition, the device features a soft-touch finish, to give the device a nice, rubberlike texture that makes the phone easy to grip. Touch isn’t that different from its HTC and Windows mobile 6 sibling, the. Yet the HTC Touch makes its mark by offering TouchFLO, a brand-new user interface that allows you to operate the smart phone just by swiping your finger on the device’s touch screen. It’s innovative and cool, but it’s also flawed. Our main concern is the lack of a sizable keyboard, which is a huge drawback for messaging fanatics, and it even slows down simple tasks such as entering new contacts.

HTC Droid Eris offers a slim design, plentiful features, and satisfying performance. It also has pinch and zoom multitouch.Though the HTC Droid Eris is essentially a rebranded version of the HTC Hero, the smartphone’s design deserves its own mention because it’s a beautiful device. The style may be familiar to anyone who knows HTC’s Touch devices, as it’s a little reminiscent of the HTC Touch with its smooth, rounded corners and black soft-touch finish. Admittedly, the black casing isn’t all that exciting, but it’s still a classic and it’s accented by chrome edges. In the hand, the Droid Eris feels like a solidly constructed phone. It measures 4.45 inches tall by 2.19 inches wide by 0.51 inch thick and weighs 4.23 ounces, so it’s slim enough to slip into a pants pocket and feels comfortable to hold during phone calls. In addition, HTC added a proximity sensor, a feature that was missing on the Sprint HTC Hero, so now the screen will turn off when you’re on a phone call to prevent any accidental misdials from a brush of your cheek.
