Htc Artemis P3300 comes with a 2 megapixel built-in camera. It does not have a macro mode like the JAMin or a flash like the K-JAM, but it works. The new camera interface is full of cryptic icons, but you should recognize most of them from using other cameras. If you don’t need UMTS/HSDPA and want to stop carrying a separate bluetooth GPS receiver, the P3300 could be your ticket to ride. Pocket-lint reviews the HTC-P3300 and writes, “The GPS function is the main selling point here and the TomTom software works a treat either in the car or on foot. In use and although the P3300 lacks the keyboard the unit performs well. The inclusion of Wi-Fi and and the GPS are a great addition and it’s surprising that both are present as the device is rather slim. What really makes the HTC P3300 a very attractive pocket pc it’s the design. The device measures 62,5mm (L) X 111mm (H) X 12,5mm (P) and weights only 124g. You can easily hold the device on one hand and with the presence of the jog wheel and trackball (HTC RollR) on the middle you can use it only with on hand. The trackball can be used for scrolling through the menus or to move the cursor on the screen and make selections as you do with a laptop trackball. On the left and right side of the wheel you can find the ‘make call / answer’ and ‘end call’ buttons as well as the dedicated windows mobile 5.0 keys. The power and dedicated camera button is located on the right side together with the stylus holder while the volume control slider, dedicated voice control key and soft reset button is located on the left side. On the back of the device you can find the 2.0-mega pixels camera, the self-portrait mirror and a socket for an external GPS Antenna. At the bottom there is the microphone jack and the USB connector. On the top of the HTC P3300 resides the external speaker. The microSD expansion slot is located beneath the battery. The display is a QVGA, 2.8” size with 65K colours and the standard 320 x 240 pixels resolution. The quality and brightness of the display is good and can be viewed very nice from different angles and under different conditions (dark-light). performance of the HTC P3300 is something that was discussed even before its release. The presence of the TI OMAP processor at 200 MHZ was one of the disappointing factors for this device with the plethora of connectivity features. Before HTC P3300 was even launched some suggested that the processor will be slow to satisfy the performance requirements of the average pocket pc user. This was said because the same TI OMAP processor was available on the QTEK 9100 and S200 and the performance was not so good.

Canon Digital Rebel XSi, it’s Canon offers two body designs for the XSi, an attractive solid black and a less-attractive two-tone silver and black. Each comes in a body-only or single-lens kit with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. This is a bit unusual, since most manufacturers also offer a dual-lens kit for this market. We tested the kit, as well as tried it out with the new EF-S 55mm-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS lens. On some counts, the XSi offers some pretty nice specs, highlighted by the 12-megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor (for Canon’s traditional 1.6x focal-length multiplier) and 9-point user-selectable autofocus system. The latter wouldn’t be much of a standout if Nikon hadn’t dropped to three-area AF in the D60. I also mark the switch from CompactFlash to SDHC in the plus column. The camera also includes the same Highlight Tone Priority mode found in the 1D Mark III, which helps preserve detail in the brightest portion of a scene. Also, the XSi includes Canon’s Auto Lighting Optimizer, which automatically adjusts contrast and brightness in case the image you captured isn’t quite perfect. Introduced last year in the 40D, the Auto Lighting Optimizer is now available in all exposure modes and employs face detection to prevent the underexposure of backlit faces I complained about in the XTi (it works). Remaining specifications are in line with the previous Rebel. For example, shutter speeds range from 30 seconds to 1/4,000 second with a flash sync speed of 1/200 second and the camera employs a 35-zone TTL metering system. Canon also offers the BG-E5 battery grip. On the other hand, it lacks common perks Sony, Pentax, and Olympus include in their cameras, like in-body mechanical stabilization and a wireless flash controller in the body, a feature I occasionally find quite useful. The inclusion of an image-stabilizing kit lens doesn’t quite compensate, since additional optically stabilized lenses tend to cost more in the long run. The XSi’s sensitivity range also tops out at ISO 1600, when others routinely reach as high as ISO 3200, and a spot meter that uses a whopping 4 percent of the viewfinder.

Samsung LCD TVFebruary 20th, 2010stevefranklis

Samsung PN42B450 42-inch plasma HDTV has been topping the best-seller charts. After testing it for a couple of days, it is easy to see why (a low price tag helps too). This model is 790p HD model where its display has a 1024 x 768 resolution. For its sound system, it uses the SRS TruSurround HD technology and has 20 Watt in audio power. In terms of connectivity, the PN42B450 comes with 3 HDMI ports, two component video port, a USB port and a couple more standard connectors. It is also quite energy efficient as it is Energy Star Compliant.
Design: The Samsung PN42B450 has an almost all black glossy frame and stand. On the bottom frame (below the screen) there is a streak of dark red that creates a nice accent to its overall look. It measures 41.7 x12.4 x 28.4 inches in dimensions and weighs at 61.3 pounds. Most of the ports are located on the back of the unit. There are also several connectors (such as a HDMI port and composite AV input) located on the side of the HDTV.
Features & Performance: Although the Samsung PN42B450 is a 720p plasma, from our tests, the video playbacks were much better than many 1080p LCD HDTVs in the market. The black levels were very deep and the colors were accurate. We tested ‘Transformers’ (Blu-ray) and the visuals were just stunning. Fast action sequences were smooth and almost flawless thanks to its 0.001ms response time. I use to think that Panasonic and Pioneer plasma HDTVs are the best in the market, but now, it seems that the Samsung PN42B450 (along with the PN50B450 and other model in its series) is going to give those giants a good run for their money.

NokiaFebruary 20th, 2010stevefranklis
Nokia N86 follows a well worn path; it is a device with a smartphone blood line stratching back a few years into the mists of history… The advent of the Nseries brand set Nokia on the road to the multimedia computer; devices that aimed to converge multimedia functionality and mobile phone into a single device. here’s no simple answer here. For one, the competitive landscape has changed. Touchscreen phones have arrived by the bucket load since the introduction of the Apple iPhone. The entry of Apple and Google has shaken up the market and given the incumbents plenty to think about. However, I think its important not to get carried away and to understand the context. While touchscreen phones do get the lion’s share of media and consumer attention, they are still out sold by the non-touch screen devices. N86 stand out if you put it next to a traditional LCD screen. AMOLED screens are becoming less unusual (e.g. i8910 HD), but it is still great to see this superior screen technology (in most, but not all, light conditions) being used. With the 8MP appended to its name it is no surprise that it is the standout feature of the N86. It is the first 8 megapixel (3280 x 2464) cameraphone that Nokia have produced. However, as we’ve commented in the past and as Nokia were at pains to point out at the launch in Barcelona, cameras are about a lot more than just the raw megapixel number. With the N86 there are several key factors that are more important that the increase in megapixels: increased sensor size and sensitivity, optimised Carl Zeiss optics, variable aperture and improved software algorithms. Let’s work through these in turn. As with other a number of other Nokia devices, there’s a Tessar Carl Zeiss lens in the camera, but as the first 8 MP device Nokia did suggest that extra time and attention had gone into the N86 (typically other camera modules are shared across multiple device). As a senior Carl Zeiss executive said to me at the N86’s launch, ‘we wouldn’t put our brand on it, if we didn’t think it was a good camera’. Essentially, Nokia and Carl Zeiss have worked together to provide a good an experience as possible within the physical constraints of a mobile phone and within certain cost constraints.
